A file appears, official, neat,
its header swears it can’t be beat.
“USER ACTIVITY,” it cried,
and half the room just nodded … satisfied!
But one lone artefact, alone,
is a rumour, not a throne.
Go and find its corroborating kin,
supplementary proof to let the real story in.
Run it once, and trust your luck.
Run it twice, in case tool one got stuck.
Dual tool verification is the rule of thumb,
two results agreeing beats a lonesome sum.
Ask what login, what process, what request,
what system spat this artefact out, and at whose behest.
Then ask what else could leave the self same trace,
method beats a hunch in any proper case.
So before you swear the log’s beyond suspect,
remember: presumed was never the same as checked.
The field can lie as sweetly as it’s spoke,
and “the header says so” isn’t proof ….. It might just be a joke.
